Mermaid Madness

Stitched on 32ct Belfast linen. Color is Vintage Antique Green. Total stitch time: 4 weeks

Mediterranean Mermaid is the second mermaid in my collection, but it will not be my last! This project was a really easy stitch and progressed rapidly. The beading took an entire week, and true to my nature was one of the changes I made to this piece. I omitted some of the beads, mainly the clear ones, to prevent the piece from looking too Gaudy. I was also disappointed in her hair color, a more mousy brown. So I stitched it in black silk instead, blending the richer brown with the black in areas around the blue.

  1. She's gorgeous. I like how you can see the shimmer in her tail in your photo...I can't ever get the sparkles to show.

  2. OK...now I want mine done. It is funny how different the background cloth looks in the photos. It is actually a hand-painted linen, which unlike the other over dyes has the patterns of swirls and such only on one side of the fabric. It is gorgeous maiden.....The Crone

  3. That is a source of much debate. I have 12 projects already started and they are all in the early stages. I was torn between 2: Night Creatures and Easter Parade. I want to do Night Creatures, but with Easter Looming I decided I should try to finish that one first. I needed something without beading! I will post in a few days, currently I only have 3 days into the project. The Maiden

  4. You my dear, are out of your mind!!!! I don't know how you handle the multi project thing. I am trying to swing it, but I feel like I'm getting nothing accomplished fast. Decided to alternate projects, one night lighthouses the next Venetian. It's a Venitian night gotta go stitch. MWAH I miss you guys. I will be in Vegas the weekend of May 8th (New Kids on The Block Concert) by the way, mom will you pick me up at the airport and can I stay at your house? I plan on packing all of my projects in the suit case.

  5. Of course I will pick you up and of course you can stay with me. I was hoping that over spring break I could come and hand out with you. I know the maiden and I had talked about a rode trip. We took one of my students this last weekend to Lehman Caves...really wanted to drive the other direction and see you in Carson. I hope it isn't May before I get to see you, you have no idea how much I miss you. What is MWAH...? Guess I just don't have the new lingo down.

  7. I just saw this in real life...OMG it is absolutely gorgeous. I am obviously going to have to get this one done myself. She is so beautiful. The maiden did use black silk for the hair and I really like the way that looks. This is so much better in real life, you can't even imagine.
